How to Download Your eNID (Digital National ID) in Nepal
Your National Identity Card now lives in your pocket. Learn how to access and download your digital NID (eNID) and where you can use it.

Nepal's National ID system is going digital. Once your National Identity Card is approved, you can access a digital version — the eNID — directly from your phone. Here is how it works and why it matters.
What Is the eNID?
The eNID is the electronic version of your physical National Identity Card. It carries the same identity information and can serve as identity proof in a growing number of digital services. Instead of carrying the physical card everywhere, you can present the digital version from your phone.
Before You Start
You will need:
- An approved NID (if your card is still under process, check your status first — see my NID status guide)
- Your National Identity Number or enrollment token number
- Your registered mobile number, since verification is done by OTP (one-time password)
Downloading Your eNID Step-by-Step
- Go to the official National ID portal at nationalid.gov.np (or the official NID mobile application where available).
- Choose the eNID / digital card option.
- Enter your National Identity Number or token number along with your registered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP code you receive by SMS to verify that it is really you.
- Your digital card will be displayed — download or save it to your phone.
Keeping Your eNID Safe
Your NID is sensitive personal data. Follow these habits:
- Never share the OTP with anyone — no government office will ever call and ask for it.
- Do not send your NID image in public groups or to strangers.
- Use a phone lock (PIN or fingerprint) so your saved documents stay private.
- Download only from the official portal — never from links sent by unknown numbers.
Where the eNID Helps
As integration expands, your NID is increasingly requested for SIM card registration, passport applications, banking KYC, and social security services. Having the digital copy in your phone means you are never caught without your identity document.
My Take
The eNID is one of the clearest examples of Nepal's digital transformation reaching regular citizens. But technology only empowers people who know how to use it safely. Learn the official process, protect your OTP, and teach one family member to do the same — that is digital literacy in action.
